Blue Horizon Hotel Room 2108 -Vancover BC July 3rd to July 5th 2016

I have never been in Vancover ,BC. So when the opportunity for 2 nights cam up we jumped on to it.

We were looking for a middle class hotel in downtown. Something close to sights and food.

Walking distance to beach and Canada place.

Picked the Blue Horizon on Robson Street.

Perfect pick. The Blue Horizon hotel sits right in the middle of everything. 

We booked deluxe room. 2 queen size beds, desk, TV, Keurig coffee and a nice chair with foot rests.

Lots of space. Best of all: balcony.

We had city view and even a view of the water. It was the corner unit.

The Blue Horizon has a restaurant and bar with it. We only had breakfast.  It was excellent and price was good. Really good coffee.

Plenty of restaurants within 1 min.

Hotel also offered pool. We did not check it out though. Free office center in lobby.

Over all: Service was good, location excellent, room clean and nice.

We would book it again in a heart beat.

MGM Signature Tower - Suite 22-705 April 27th to May 1st 2016

We are in Las Vegas often. As MLife members  we usually stay in one of the hotels which are part of this program. We were never disappointed.

Planning this last 3 day trip we decided for the first time to book a suite in one of the MGM Signature towers.

We found a good deal on booking.com.

Just like with any other property it was easy to get there from the airport.
Check in was pleasant and fast. The girl at the counter did a great job explaining the property and the amenities. She even changed the reservation for us and checked us in early without charging us extra.

The suite did not disappoint us a bit. It was in great shape, clean and functional. Very much enjoyed the hot tub bath tub. We especially enjoyed the balcony. Nice views and quiet.

We had breakfast on it and just sat there relaxing and enjoying the view.

The fully furnished suite had refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee machine, sink. So you can cook your own food. But you would need pots and silverware. There were also only few glasses.

Those items you can ask for at the front desk. Not sure if they said they would charge anything for it.

On the property there was a small restaurant as well as a bar. We did not spend time at the bar but thought it looked inviting.

We had one breakfast in the restaurant. High priced. Food ok. Service ok.

There were pools and hot tubs. Both we did not use. It all looked clean and inviting as well.

We thought we are 10 to 15 min from MGM Grand and the strip.

However, it  was more like a 5 min walk to MGM casino floor. Another 5 maybe to the  strip.

We had a very relaxing stay. Being some distance from the crowds was actually pretty nice.

When we travel again time Las Vegas we for sure will check the offers for this place.

Seminole Casino & Hotel in Immokalee , Florida 2 nights in Room 421 July 26 and 27

We stayed a few times in the newly build hotel in Immokalee. Probably about 6 times.

On this particular weekend mentioned above we had a two night stay planned yet again.

As always we arrived in the afternoon, just a little bit after the beginning of check in at 4 pm. It all depends on how you booked your hotel room how late your can actually check in. We recommend to always call them if you are running later than the time posted on line or on your reservation.

After a few not so smooth check in experiences, this time it all went pretty fast and without incidents.

Room 421 is a 4th floor room. We like to be close to the stairs which lead to the pool. So towards the end of the building. The hotel is not very big. So it is not a long ways to reach the elevator to the casino and the ice machine which is located on that floor as well.

Note: There is two ice machines. 1st floor and 4th floor. When you make reservations you should consider that if you know that you will need ice.

Once you reach your room I think you will pleasantly surprised. The rooms are large and have very high ceilings. The furnishing is very nice, floors are excellent and as in all other casino hotels this one also has very comfortable beds.

View entering your room. The rooms have a lot of light if the curtains are open, which they were on this particular day.

 

Bathroom in this lay out is on the right. Some rooms are opposite but look the same. It is all new and was well stocked every single time were at this hotel. Very nice shower.

 

Shower head is pretty high. I love this one. It trickles nicely on you. Very relaxing. Like standing in the rain.

 

Toilets in this hotel are small and low. But they are in order and you have plenty of space.

 

Coming in you saw the TV and desk on the left. This is a nice big space. Great for work, putting your stuff down. Lots of room and I think it is tasteful. On this photo you see a door to the left. That is the refrigerator.

 

It is a small fridge, but it is nice to have it. Bring your own drinks and food and have snacks ready to go.

Remember it is small. So do not bring too much. Couple things to say about it. It is not cooling fast and when you open the door you feel warm air coming out. It seems they did not add an opening in the back to vent the fridge.

 

You will find a Keurig coffee maker. Nice feature. They give you 4 portions, but when you ask you will get more for free. You could also bring your own if you use the same maker. It is nice that they have real cups. Even the Hardrock in Hollywood has plastic cups ( which has advantages as well).

 

This is a nice corner. The large King Bed and a seating area. Very comfortable. Plenty of light. Love the bed. Really good quality. I have a bad back at times and there is absolutely no problem when I sleep on this bed.

 

The view is not exciting, but it is also not bad. you see some green belt behind the parking lot.

The room is tastefully furnished. Other things you will find is the ice bucket and glasses, table for your suite case ( right at entrance) and a nice radio alarm clock.

 

 

The rooms at the Seminole Immokalee Casino and Hotel seem to be all very similar. At least we found that all of our rooms looked the same. Different paintings on the wall. But all other things are consistent. That is nice. You know what you get.

 

Everything worked great. Lights, TV, fridge , coffee maker and so on. But This is to be expected in a pretty much new hotel.

 

Room services is available. There is a binder with all the info. We did not try any food in the room, so I can not write about it.

 

The girls who service the rooms are all very friendly and do a good job. If you are really nice you get some chocolate on your pillow.

 

 

Wifi is free. They are now writing the info on the card which comes with your room keys. Nice. Not too long ago you had to call them.

 

We had a nice and quite stay. The first morning we woke up to the alarm which told us to get dressed and leave the building. But employees in reasonable time determined that it was a false alarm. I did not think it was a big deal. It can happen.

 

Charging your drinks and food to the room now works without problems. That is also an improvement. I will need to write a Casino review to give you a better overview.

 

For now I can see. This specific room was as good as the other rooms we had. Room 421 is a great room if you want to be close to the pool using the stairs. If you can not walk good, this room will be too far from the elevator.

 

Last: The ice machine here worked excellent. If you read my review about the Roxy Suite at the Hardrock Hollywood you know that the ice machine there was out of order for 24 hours.

 

 

In all, this is a nice place to stay in Immokalee, which otherwise does not offer much in terms of hotel. The room rates are between 109 and 299. Depends on the season and on the day. Best is when you get a comp room. 299 would not be an option for us to pay for this room. 109 is a fair price.

 

Luckily we get invitations for free rooms. That makes it an even better stay !

Hardrock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida - Roxy Suite 622 Photos and short review July 19th and 20th

Whenever I am on a road trip for a golf tournament we try to stay in Casino Hotels if possible. There are several reasons for that, but nothing to be talked about in this little article.

Last weekend I played in Fort Lauderdale yet again. This is one of my favorite areas to play as it is close to the Hollywood Hardrock Casino Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.

I like this place with all the gambling, restaurants, action and especially the pool and bar area.

Although we are not the biggest gamblers in town, we seem to spend enough time in those Casinos eating, drinking and some gambling so we get invited for weekend stays.

This time we got the opportunity to book the "Roxy Suite". It sounded like fun and was a room we never had before at this hotel. So took advantage of the offer.

I was hoping that this room was a) nicely furnished and decorated and b) had a view towards the big water pond in front of the casino with its fountains and lights. After all we were on the 6th floor this time ( we were as high as 13 before) and not on the 3rd from which you literally only see the roof of the casino.

After a quick and smooth check-in we arrived at our home for two days.

Walking in it looked almost the same as the King Bed Room we had a few weeks earlier on the 3 floor. See first two photos:

The lay out and furniture actually looked the same as in the other room. Not even sure it was any different at all. Next photos.

All what  you saw I found very nicely organized. Clean and in good shape. Bar was stocked ( they told us we can not move anything in it or we will be charged). Coffee was stocked and coffee area was clean.

 

To me the entire area was practical and nice.

 

The bathroom was the difference to the regular room. It was bigger and had not only a separate huge shower and bathtub but also a toilet with it's own door. See following photos:

I have to say that I liked the bathroom. It was much bigger than the other one and certainly it is nice to have separate tub, shower and toilet.

 

Although I did not check everything in terms of craftsmanship I have to say that in the bathroom you could see that it was not very well done. The tiles were not exact and the grout was done very unprofessional. Nothing you would expect in a room which cost between 129 and 750 a night depending on events and season.

Not sure if you can see it , but clearly it was done in a hurry and not well on top of it. But I found over the years, that tile jobs are not done well at all , even in the best hotels and restaurants. Which always raised questions in my mind about the management and owners of establishments.

 

We did have a nice view. Of which I only have a photo at daytime. It was much nicer at night. With the lights and the fountain on. But never the less, it was a view on the water !

You can see the water. At night the buildings have some colored lights and to the right you can see the water fountain. A nice touch and it is nice to sit at night and have a glass of wine or so.

 

 

 

I liked the Roxy Suite. It looked nice, had a view and the bathroom really was very comfortable. As always the mattress was excellent. A nice feature also was the do not disturb button. No more hanging signs.

 

 

 

Over all the Roxy Suite 622 at the Hardrock Casino Hotel in Hollywood, Florida is a nice room. Close to the elevator as well as the ice machine ( which did not work for almost 14 hours though).

 

The view as acceptable and most important. All was clean. Certainly I would not pay 800 dollars for it. Maybe up to 300 . But it is all a question of demand. We did not have to pay for it at all and enjoyed our two day stay very much.

 

If you like a little more comfort and are willing to put out a few more $, the Roxy Suite might be an option.

Cafe Beignet - New Orleans : Bourbon Street Location , Visit in April 2015 - Food review

We have been to New Orleans a few times now. To me that is one of the most fascinating cities in the US. We did a lot of walking and sight seeing in this town and enjoyed every minute of it.

One of the things I always liked to do , is walk up and down Bourbon Street one time each visit. Just walk it and look at the businesses, hotels and people. While doing that I usually have a beer or two.

Also a regular stop was and will be Café Beignet. Café Beignet sits in the back of a court yard where you can find some live music. Local artists of all kind playing music which at times brings you back into the good all times of this vibrant city.

What we usually did was to walk in, listen to the music and have a beer. Walking into the court yard is like leaving the city. Really interesting feeling. You listen to the music and at times forget that  you are in the middle of a big town.

We never really ate anything there. But this time we came with family including a child. So after walking for over an hour in the heat, all were hungry and thirsty. We decided to try out some of the items on the menu.

We ordered a couple omelette , a sandwich and beignets. Had some beer and coffee with it.

I had the ham and cheese omelette. The other omelette was the crawfish. The sandwich was called Mufalletta.

Took about 10 minutes to get the food. I was disappointed with the presentation of the items. There were just thrown on to some plastic plates and neither garnished or even orderly placed.

The food itself was fresh and hot but of low quality. Not even worth to go into detail of the items. One might think that for the price you pay, you might get some better quality items which are prepared in an appetizing way.

The Beignets were the only item which were OK. Rest of the food was not worth the money. Coffee was good and all other drinks were good as well.

While I liked and like the spot to visit and listen to music, I certainly will never eat there again. The prices are to high for what they offer. Seems like a full blown tourist trap to me. And we stepped right into it although not being real tourists.

If you walk Bourbon Street in New Orleans, I would suggest to stop by this music plaza and enjoy a cold drink while listening to the music and enjoying the atmosphere which reminded me of a little court yard in Paris.

I would not suggest to eat much there. Maybe the bakery items. But you will find better food not far from there.

Quality Inn Golf Resort in Naples - Review of 2 day stay - May 1st and 2nd

Is the Quality Inn Golf Resort a good place to stay?

That is exactly what I asked myself just a week ago and here is what I found last weekend.

In connection with a WGAT USA golf tournament in Naples I was in search for a reasonably priced hotel. There seemed to be plenty of options in town. But we decided to go with the Quality Inn Golf Resort at Golden Gate.

A few reasons let us book this hotel. Amongst them the location, price, amenities and OK reviews.

After the first round of my tournament I found the hotel easily. Just a mile and a half from I 75 and right on the main road. When I drove in to the parking lot I immediately thought that this must be an older place. The buildings looked a little dated and the area around the hotel complex was older as well.

I right away noticed that the parking lot was packed. Still I found a spot and went straight to the check in counter. The greeting I received was not too friendly. No smiles and no hello. The girl behind the counter asked briefly if I was checking in and for my name.

The check in process was fast and easy. I liked that, but at this point I did not feel to welcome. However, I was explained where my room was, where I find breakfast and that there is a restaurant and a Tiki Bar.

My room was located in the most right building of the main complex right on the golf course. Again I found that the building was pretty old.  I noticed that the entrance door to our building was not only old, but also that it closed slowly and you were able to actually leave it open. Which raised the question why there was a room key scanner to the right.

Entering the building I noticed that everything was neat and clean. A good sign. This weekend I stayed on the second floor. So in to the elevator. Old my functional and again , clean.

After entering my room I first opened the curtains to get some light in. My first impression of the room was good. The entire room looked very clean and organized. Again I noticed the age of all things. A tube TV ( which worked great), older micro wave, small fridge and a coffee machine ( which was not old).

The main room had everything you need to be there for a longer stay. All equipment was clean and worked good. The bed not only looked good, but also was comfortable.

Moved on into the bathroom , which also was very clean and well stocked. The shower cabin seemed to be new and looked inviting. I liked the shower head, which was the kind you can change settings.

Last I stepped out on my balcony. My room faced the parking lot. So my view was more like city view. Not my favorite, but really not bad at all. I guess the rooms facing the golf course were more expensive. But considering why I was there, a view was not on top of my agenda.

The building I was in was a non smoking building and my non smoking room was exactly that. The entire building had absolutely no cigarette smell.

I got settled in and then went on to explore more of the hotel.

First I went to the restaurant. This place has been around for a while. The pattern however continued. All things were old, but clean and well maintained. I went straight to the bar to get something to drink and a dinner.

The server behind the bar, Kaitlyn I believe, was a little shy but very friendly. I ordered a beer and asked for the menu. Both came right away. The menu is simple and the prices are good. I decided to try the Philly Cheese Steak with sweet potato fries.

Did not take very long to get my food as well. The sandwich was OK for the price. The beef was a little dry , but tasted good and  the fries were hot and just as I like them. I sat there for about 40 minutes. Eating and drinking a couple beers.

A few people showed up to eat, but most of the customers came in for a drink. I guess I was a little late of the dinner crowed. I paid my bill, which was much lower than I expected! and went outside to the Tiki Bar.

This place was packed. Karaoke was running and it seemed very popular. I really liked the Tiki Bar. Good size, nice setting and right by the pool. The Karaoke evening seemed to be a very popular event. There were so many people and more arrived throughout the night.

Had another drink and watched and listened for a while. Even could have gone in the pool as it was open until 10 pm. But I did not.

I was a little concerned that it would be too loud to fall asleep once I was in bed. But I was wrong. Once in my room , I did not hear a thing from the Karaoke. Laid down and had a very good night. .

Shower cabin worked great. Love the shower head. Continental breakfast was included. So I went downstairs to check it out. They offered all you would need. Fruit, Yoghurt, cereal, toast and waffles. Orange Juice, Milk. Did not look too bad.

Since I was there to play a tournament I checked out the other breakfast. A buffet with hot foods for an extra 10 $. It was in the same room, just on the other side.

There was bacon, sausage, potatoes, country gravy, toast and fruits. Also you could get all the other stuff. I paid the 10 $ and had a good breakfast. The sausage was the best part of the warm items. I still think that 5 $ would have been more appropriate for an extra charge. After all I paid for the continental with the room. But I liked the food and the services was again friendly.

The second evening I did not have dinner in the hotel. But I saw they offered a Prime Rib Buffet. For 29.99 $ you got Prime Rib , Chicken Masala and some sides. But because I did not eat it, I will not write or comment about it. I only had a beer inside and then went to the Tiki Bar again.

Another Karaoke team was working this time. It was not that busy. Again I liked the setting and had another drink and watched and listened. I really liked how fast the servers were. There was no wait and they constantly were looking around to make sure that everybody had something to drink.

I had another very good night sleep that night. Sunday morning was my check out. This time I tried the continental breakfast. It was sufficient and just what you expect from the offer.

Check out was fast and easy again. This time the girls behind the counter were friendlier and also smiled.

I travel a lot. Stay in 1 star hotels and in 5 star hotels. Resorts, Casinos, Roadside Motels and so on. Not every person can smile and be perfect every day and every moment. So I will not put too much weight on the smiling part. Nobody was unfriendly at any time.

Overall : The Quality Inn Golf Resort would be a place I would stay again. Maybe not my first choice, but for sure it is an option if you are on the road and need a decent room.

The rooms were clean and functional. The entire hotel looked clean and well maintained. The service was overall friendly. The restaurant was old, but the food was good for the price. The pool and the ho tub were in good shape and I liked the Tiki Bar. Nice place to hang out and meet people.

I did not play golf there, so no word on that. If I ever do, I will add some words.

Considering all the reviews I read before staying at the Quality Inn Golf Resort, it exceeded my expectations.

The Ole Biloxi Fillin Station - great place for oysters and beer in Biloxi, MS - Dinner April 6th 2015

We visited Biloxi ,MS a lot over the past 6 years. Mostly we stayed at the Beau Rivage and jumped Casinos. If not doing that we took road trips or played golf. Although we read about the historic town a few times, we were under the impression , that there is not much going on. So when we walked, we walked along the beach or the main roads to the casinos.

 

Last weekend, April 5th to April 8th we visited Biloxi yet again. This time with a different plan, which included the exploration of old down town.

 

Last Monday we then decided to  check out historic downtown at last and see what is going on there. Totally forgetting that it was Easter Monday. Naturally all stores and shops were closed. So we walked through this part pretty quickly.

 

 After walking for some time we saw what looked to us like an old gas station which was converted into a bar and restaurant. From the get go I liked the feel of it.

 

Seemed like a great idea to try something new and we needed to find a place for some supper anyhow. Walked under the old gas station canopy and found us a table. We were lucky to find a table as it was pretty busy. Seemed like a lot of locals were eating and drinking there, which always is a good sign.

 

Only took a few minutes for a server to greet us and to take the order for drinks. Alicia was very friendly and took the time to explain the beer selection to me. I ordered a local beer. Some family followed and others had some soft drinks.

 

The menu was pretty interesting. Immediately I noticed that they had three different Oyster Meals. That appealed to me and it seemed a specialty from them. Alicia did not take long to bring out the drinks and took the order while there.

 

Again she answered all questions and the ordering process was a breeze. I had fresh Oysters and hand made fries while other orders were Oysters baked with bacon and Parmesan, the house burger and chicken stripes. Also we ordered one side of coleslaw.

 

The food came within reasonable time and all at once. This is always good. I do not like when meals are brought out with big time gaps. So we all started eating at the same time.

 

My Oysters were excellent. Extremely fresh and of great quality. The cocktail sauce was not too spicy and the horse reddish tasted like in the old world. They were served on an ice bed and with a lemon. Simply loved it. The hand made fries were also excellent. Fresh, nicely seasoned and plenty of it.

 

I tried the baked Oysters with bacon and Parmesan and again was very happy with it. Real Parmesan and the right amount of bacon. Also they were not baked to total dryness.

 

The burger tasted very fresh. Seemed like they make them, but I did not ask , so I will not say they do. The coleslaw also tasted fresh and home made.

 

Only thing I did not try were the chicken strips, but the person who ordered them said they were very good and I will settle for that.

 

Had a different local beer after the first one and it was as good if not better than the other one.

 

While Alicia picked up the dishes , we ordered the check and then enjoyed the atmosphere and the view of the town. Really liked the feel of this old town .

 

Alicia did not take very long to bring the bill. I used the time to check out the bathroom. There is only one of them. One for all. No problem in my mind and it seemed to not bother anyone. It was clean and simple.

 

I then checked out the inside bar area and the second dining room. Both are cozy and also bring over a nice atmosphere.

 

Overall I was excited that we found this place and we will for sure go back there and spend some time trying beer and some more food.

 

The food is very good, service was great, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is nice. If you come to Biloxi and want to get away from the Casino Buffets and bars, The Ole Biloxi Fillin Station would be a great choice.

 

 

Cooke real estate school 14 hour continuing education course for Florida licensees

I am holding my real estate license for a long time. Had a license in different states and different countries. To be able to do so I took many classes and passed many exams.

Currently living in Florida I have the Florida real estate license for sales associates.

Part of having this license in Florida is to do continuing education every 2 years. Now the particular course I did this time is for licensees who hold there license for at least 4 years. Meaning that it is the second renewal period.

This time I picked an offer from Cooke Real Estate Schools. They started sending me offers for this course long time before my renewal due date. The price was by far the best 14.95$.

I went to their website, found my course, paid with credit card and received 2 emails within minutes. It was very simple to find what I needed and to submit payment. The two emails I received were:

1. Confirmation of my sign up and payment
2. Password and instructions

I signed in right away to make myself familiar with the system.

The page I was directed to was super simple. Showed me links to the ebook for studying, email to instructor ....

Also status of course and a link to the final exam. As a matter of fact you could take the final exam right there.

I decided to go through text book first. Although it is not a problem to fail ( you can take it again right away at no extra charge), I am not a fan of wasting time.

Ebook was a PDF file. Easy to navigate and with all needed information. Not sure if I took 14 hours to read it, but you are not clocked so it does not matter.

Once ready for the exam I clicked on the link and started. You do not have to finish in one sitting and are able to save and finish later. So there is absolutely no pressure.

I answered all questions, but noted the ones which I was not sure about. Then I saved my work and went back to the textbook to check my answers.

Once I was sure about all 29 answers I gave ( multiple choice system) I submitted the form. Few seconds later I got my result. Passed. You need 75% of 29 questions.

You can print out the confirmation  and put it in your file. Cooke school will send the completion certificate to the Department.

Cooke Real Estate School is definitely a great way to go when you need to get the 14 hour continuing education for FL real estate done. I will pick them again next time.

HTC One Mobile Phone - short review

When I say short, I mean short.
I first worked in the cellular phone business in 1996. Selling hundreds of phones with plans from different providers.

My market was residential as well commercial. In those years you needed to know as much as possible about your phones and your providers and I was a master in learning about phones  and then getting the right phone in the hands of my clients.

Times have changed and phones became more than just that. Over the past 4 years I tried all kinds of phones. All Android software, all smartphones. I liked them all and was satisfied.

Then I bought the HTC One. By far the best piece I owned so far.

Looks:

Flat, stylish, metal look. This phone simply looks good.

Battery:

Thew battery life is super. Depending on your usage it might be different to mine. Using all day for work including internet etc I get 24 hours . When using it as a phone only I easily had 2 full days. Naturally I expected the battery life to get shorter and it did. But nothing so significant that it would be worth to write about too long. In all I am satisfied.

Software:

I am not a tech geek. But from what I understood at the time of my purchase, the phone had the most current software available as operating system. Thinking about the speed of this phone when working with the apps and programs I have only good things to say. Compared to my old phone the HTC was lightening fast. In regards to what was on my pbone as pre installed applications, I had everything I needed to get my social and business work done. Over time I added applications and with Google Play it was a breeze to do so.

I guess there is authors who go into much more technical details or write lengthy books about the HTC filled with info which only means something to certain people.

For the normal and regular cell phone user I can say the following.

The HTC Smartphone is the best phone I had so far. It is easy to set up and operate, has more than sufficient battery life, looks great and is very durable. Getting it with a contract will bring the price to 99$ or less. That makes it affordable for most of us.

I am positive that if there is no comparable model available when my contract runs out I will get the same phone again.

The HTC One is a great phone for business and social use alike.

Lake Tarpon Resort - Palm Harbor, FL - How good is it?

When travelling for golf tournaments we always look for good looking hotels which offer a pool, a restaurant, maybe breakfast and if possible some view on something nice.

This all helps to have a fun stay and get relaxed before a golf tournament or any other work we would do.

My schedule showed that I play at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, FL. A Golf Channel Tour event I was looking forward to be part of for years. Palm Harbor is about 1 hour and 20 minutes away from where we live.

Not exactly a long way. However, imagine to have a tee time at 7 38 am. To warm up for such a tee time you need to be there at 6 45 am , which means getting up extremely early.

So for this event we searched for a hotel with the following attributes:

1. Close to the resort, within 1 to 3 miles
2. Pool
3. Restaurant
4. Gym
5. View on the lake or any other water body
6. Price under 100 $
7. Good reviews
8. Free WIFI
9. Breakfast

Amazingly there were not too many hotels in the area and certainly not many who offered what we were looking for.

The good news was that we did find the Lake Tarpon Resort Hotel. By all accounts the exact hotel we were looking for. The hotel seemed to offer all of what we were looking for and for a price which was exactly as we imagined it. Further I read that it was the old Best Western, which made me think that the quality of the building and rooms should be good.

We booked the hotel directly without going through any of the other websites like Expedia and so on. The booking process was easy, fast and friendly.

On 4th of July we arrived in the area at around noon and decided to check out the hotel first and maybe even get into the room ( which usually is not possible until 3 pm). We found it easily.

From the outside it looked nice and interesting. Driving into the parking lot we found a clearly older hotel which was kind of build like a Spanish style building. Parking lot was clean and the entire grounds looked like they were taken care off.

We parked in front and went in. Nice entrance, big entrance hole with seating , computer area and breakfast area. Looked nice. Clean and welcoming. Went to the counter where we were greeted in a friendly tone and asked if we can be helped with anything. I explained everything and we were told that the rooms were not ready yet. That was fine with us. We did not expect that they were ready.

So we said we will be back later this afternoon. On the way out I checked out the breakfast corner. Looked good. Then we walked toward the pool. On the way we saw the gym which looked updated and in good shape as well. Pool was busy. Small pool but being on the canal and with a view on buildings, some green belt and boats I liked it.

The restaurant was empty and closed, which I did not expect. If it would have been open, it would have offered some nice seating with view on water and green belt.

We returned at about 7 pm. The room now was ready and we checked in. Giving a different card than the one we made the reservation with and we were told then that this will not be a problem. The lady told us where to go and that we have a top floor room.

Used the elevator to the 3rd floor but had to walk up one more floor. We entered the room and it was humid and hot. I went to turn on the A/C , but was not, able to get it going. The room otherwise looked nice, clean and had a large balcony with a view.

Called the receptionist and told her about the A/C. She said she will call back and did so about 3 minutes later. She told us that there is no maintenance guy and she will upgrade us. Just pick up a new key. We did so and again had a room on the 4th floor more towards the middle of the building.

Entered the room. Nice and cool. Clean and smelled good. The view as much better. Actually could see the lake and oversee the pool, canal, houses and green belt. We liked it. It came with micron wave, refrigerator, TV ( old one), Table and chairs and plenty of room. The balcony was pretty big but only had two plastic chairs.

Never tried the TV. But used the fridge which worked fine. All lights were working as well. The mattress was newer and of good quality. The bathroom looked clean and had all the supplies. Towels were nicely presented and you could see that they updated a little.

We actually slept well in that room and it was overall quite around us. I mean it was 4th of July.

Next morning we found that the shower was not draining properly, but good enough for us. Coffee machine worked great. WIFI worked as well and was for free.

We had a simple breakfast. Bagel, cream cheese, jelly, coffee. They did have some oatmeal and sweet stuff. I was OK with all that. Not like a Best Western, but not bad as well.

Check out was fast, but they did charge the wrong card, which we did not complain about since I had to move on to the course.

Other notes: From the balcony I saw rooms which were in disorder, beds upside down and so on. Clearly they were working on remodeling. We were told the restaurant will open in November again but no explanation why there is no info on the Internet that it was not there.

Overall I was happy. Lake Tarpon Resort Hotel in Palm Harbor might be a 2 star hotel, but it offers all you need. Customer service was good. Everybody tried to help us and make us happy. Rooms were clean and functional. The location certainly is nice. Close to the lake and parks and to the Innisbrook Resort ( for golfers).

If playing again in the area I would not mind to go back to Lake Tarpon Resort. We later heard that the bank owns it right now and not only would that explain how things work out there right now, but it also gives hope that there will be improvement over the next few months.

We paid 80 $ and if you are not seeking a 4 or 5 start hotel, this place could be the place for you. Have you been there? If so, write a comment and share your experiences about Lake Tarpon Resort.

Krazy Lobster Beach Bar Cafe and Restaurante - Costa Maya Mexico

Finally we made it on a cruise again. I did not write much about our cruising yet, but the stop we made on the costa maya in Mexico motivated me to begin.
The Norweign Epic stopped at Costa Maya as part of the 7 day trip we booked this time. While doing my research online I did not find too much about this location. So I decided to just go on land and see what happens.

I will get into the cruise terminal later. We took a cab van to town. 3$ gets you to the little village right on the water. You find a board walk with a ton of on the beach bars which offer food, beer, massages and more.

While walking along you get invited a lot and everybody has great offers. Naturally they all say they have the best deal. That is where Pepe approached me. Very friendly guy. Professional and business like.

He told me about his offer. 5$ for 5 Corona, free WiFi and free tequila when if I would eat. Sounded great and with handshake I told him I will be back for sure. About 30 min later , after walking the beach and some shopping we returned to the Krazy Lobster.

Pepe was pretty happy to see us again. I told I will be back. We got a table in the shade. Beautiful view on the water. The tables were simple plastic tables like the ones you would find in old italian cafes or so. Simple chairs. All right in the sand. Perfect.

We ordered the 5 for 5 deal. Took a while to get it. So be patient. You will get 5 little Coronas. A fair deal. Served cold on ice. We had a regular Corona and a Negra Modelo after that. Fairly priced at 3$. We did not eat but the food I saw commie to other tables looked pretty good.

I was not able to get the WiFi going at the table. However I found out I had the wrong password. We met nice people from our and other ships. It was a nice stay. 17$ for 9 beers was ok with me and for the friendly service our server earned a nice tip.

On the way out I got the free Wi-Fi going and Pepe came personally to thanki us for comingq bac

If you ever make it to Costa Maya in Mexico you need to take the taxi to the village and stop by at the Krazy Lobster. It is a ni e place living up to the promise of Pepe . I for sure will be back there when coming back.

I am sure there is other places whi h are good and. Lean. But there was no second Pepe who just transmitted the right vibe

Behr Deckover Paint - how good is? Is it easy to apply?

We bought a very old porch home some years ago. At that point we thought we will do some work on it but did not have an immediate plan. Thought we just go day by day.

One thing we always wanted to do  or redo was the porch. I am pretty sure the wood on the porch was the original. The wood itself felt fine. It was the paint on it which we did not like.

It was coming of and was used and dirty. So after waiting for a few years we decided to get it done. First step. Research.

What you are looking for is a paint which covers, fills small cracks, is durrable, easy to apply and for a price which is affordable.

After some research online I came up with two different products. 1. Restore, sold at Lowe's and 2. Behr Deckover Paint, a Home Depot product .

It took me only a couple hours of reading reviews to make a decision. Behr Deckover came out ahead on pretty much all aspects. As a Lowes guy I was not too thrilled about it. Behr is sold at Home Depot. However , the reviews were clear.

We picked up a brochure with color chart to see what color we like. It turned out to be a darker green. So we got the paint one day and a cleaning product to wash of the dirt,oil and whatever was on there.

I had the product but was not able to start the project for another 4 weeks. If you plan to do it, make sure you buy the paint the day or so before you want to do it. When I opened the cans I found that the solid part of this special paint settled at the bottom of the can. It took me 10 min each to stir it up good enough to work with it.

But first you need to prepare the surface you want to cover. Sweep it and wash it of with the special cleaner.

The cleaner, which was from Behr as well worked good. Looked like it took a ton of dirt of.

They say it dries fast but it took the entire night. Weather might have been a factor.

I only had a brush and  4 small rollers.  I bought small rollers because the way our old porch looked and I figured it will be easier to apply the product. Which it was.

First I did all the edges with my brush. The paint was very easy to apply with the brush. Next I filled bigger cracks and other uneven spots just as they described on the can. I let it dry for a couple hours. Then I rolled the entire porch pretty thick. Let it dry over night and rolled it again the next day.

It looked very nice and even. I let it dry and cure for another 3 days. Wanted to make sure it is all set to go.

The porch looks great, feels great in my opinion Behr Deckover Paint did exactly what it promised. It covered everything nicely, was very easy to apply, covered more than it said on the can and feels great on you bare feet.

We now put our things like table , chairs and BBQ back on the porch. For the next 6 months or so  we will use it and clean it often. After that I will write a comment on how it worked out.

So far Behr Deckover Paint lived up to my expectations and I would call it a great product to be used to revive your deck or porch. Come back to this blog in 6 months or so and I will write a comment with a short update.

Mad Onion Steakhouse at Hooters Casino Hotel in Las Vegas

Have you been to Las Vegas? If you are looking to eat out, Las Vegas is the place to be. There is as many restaurants as slot machines. Well maybe not that many butq you get the idea. We love Las Vegas and we love good food. Also we are willing to pay for good food and at the same time are always looking for a good deal. Let us be honest. The majority of us are not eating in to level restaurants where the prices are so high you can get a good hotel room for a few days. Mostly because some famous chef put his name on the front door. One of the good deals for.good food is without a doubt The Mad Onion in the Hooters Casino Hotel. The Hooters Casino Hotel is right next to the Tropicana and across the MGM Grand. The Mad Onion is located on the left side when walking into the Casino. There is a cozy little bar infront of it ,so you can not miss it. You can not make reservations it is first come first serve. We ate there many times and never waited longer than 0 min. But you will have to collect your own experience. The hoste2sses and servers for the most part were all nice. It is a classic eatery. Don't expect modern interior. We knowthe place for years and nothing has changed. I like it. Most important to me is that it is clean. The menu offers steaks, salads, pastas, burgers. A good selection of food. By far the best deal was and as of today is the 9.99$ prime rib dinner. 8 oz of excellent prime rib with a choice of potatoes and veggies. For 5$ more you can make it 14 oz. Made to your liking this is a great deal. The onion rings are a good starter as well is the onion soup. I had other dishes and was never disappointed. As a matter of fact during my wedding week, we took the entire wedding party there two times and everybody was happy with the food. Including salads, chicken and shrimp pasta.
If you like good food for a fair price, don't mind the off strip location and the old fashioned style. The Mad Onion in the Hooters Casino Hotel is one stop you should make for dinner when in Las Vegas.

Fremont Casino Hotel Las Vegas - Paradise Buffet - review of the buffet

When in Vegas we always like to try all kinds of restaurants and places. It is fun to find new spots to eat and drink. Yesterday we decided to show the old Las Vegas to family and friends who where never there before. The experience of the lightshow is a completely new story. After we watched it we were hungry and decided to eat before we go back to the strip. There are plenty of offers. Great deals. Seafood, buffets and so on and so on. We tried to get in to Tony Roma's. But the waiting time was 1 hour and that was too long. This was mainly because of the lobster and steak deal which, for 11.99 is unbelievable. Then we saw, that in the same hotel, The Fremont, they had the Paradise buffet and on that day the Prime Rib offer for 14.99. Sounded like a great deal and we went in. The restaurant is very old but gives you kind of a feeling like being in Vegas in the 60s. No doubt that was a glamorous spot then. First impression was OK. We were seated and placed our drink order. Soft drinks got to our table fast. The beer took 15 min. But it was OK. We had some before. I started right away to check things out. Just do a walk by to see what is available. After all what can you expect for that price if Prime Rib is included? The salad bar looked OK and with a basic selection to mix your own salad as well as some ready salads. I am not a huge salad fan and did not have any. However it all looked fresh and the bar was clean and well kept. I moved on to the little Sushi counter. About 5 different kinds of rolls. They looked OK. Nothing fancy. Taste was OK as well and the ginger was fresh. That was all I had as an appetizer. The Italian corner looked OK as well. Had Spaghetti there as well as some chicken, meatballs and veggies. I tried the spaghetti. Tomato sauce and some meat balls. The noodles were good. The tomato sauce was just that. Not much taste other than tomato. Meat balls did not have much taste but were not bad either. Next I tried the Korean chicken, which was outstanding. As I had some great prime rib before we went there I did not have any this time. It looked good and I am sure it was the best item on the menu. For the price you pay, the food is OK and the selection sufficient. The place itself was old. You can see that they do not much to it. The area we were sitting in was right next to the service station were the servers brought the dishes and so on. So it was busy. The servers however seemed to be in a good mood and that lifted the overall atmosphere. Floor was not clean. Mostly a result of having an old carpet all over the sitting area.
In all I was satisfied and if in the area , I would go there again. When you spend time in Old Vegas, are hungry, find no quick solution and want to watch your dollar. The Paradise Buffet at the Fremont Casino Hotel might be a good option. I certainly liked the 2 $ Coronas. If you have been there, comment if you like. Keep it  objective.

Practice round at Capris Isle in Venice, Florida

Long week of work behind me. Not much time for any practice. That is not ideal, but feeling good and a good rhythm is present. This year is over and we are already planning for next year. Looks like a couple more partners will be on board to help go to the next level. It is nice to find people who believe. Most players you spend time with and are not playing as good as they think they can, try to talk your game down as well and for most people successfully so. Luckily what people talk around me does not mean anything to me. Funny, that the pros I play with or the Amateurs in the scratch to plus range confirm my ability consistently :). Now there is a sign. Well today we will play Capris Isle in Venice. A course I have never played. Seems to be a skins game which we can be part of. My main purpose today is mapping the course. So , the game in itself is secondary to a point. I want to play well. But Mainly I want to take a good look at the fairways, greens and possibly take some notes. I will avoid side games and just pay for the skins. I want to be prepared for tomorrow morning. When you do not have much practice time, it is extremely important to make a plan. As a matter of fact, there is players who over practice and do not have a game plan at all. A mistake often done by amateurs and I agree, something hard to get rid off when you do it for years. Course management is a crucial point and if you do it well you can safe yourself a ton of strokes and troubles.

Spoke with a LPGA caddy a few weeks ago and he told me that ability and swing are the foundation, but that the work he does is the final touch. Walking the course. Looking for things, mapping, checking and so on. I do not have a caddy, although he offered that I can call him any me next year and he would caddy for me in the area to help me getting started. My plan for next year is not yet developed. Mainly because I am not at the handicap level I need to be to play other tournaments. 2 or lower is the number I need to have and I am not there. I am not far away, but I am not there. It will take some extra effort to get there. The good news is , I know how to do it because I played at the level before.

Once we hit the 2 mark, I will look at more tournaments to play in. I am invited to several tours who would like me to be part of them, but if I do not have a chance to win any $ I am not spending hundreds of dollars to enter. I am not even playing the local tour here for that reason. What sense does it make to spend 200 $ and not having the scoring to make the money back? I played with dozens of pros and tour pros, so there is no benefit or anything special in it for me. I might consider to play with Freddy :) , Steve or Sergio. But for now those guys are out of question LOL.

Look like I made up my mind for new clubs. Going to change my hybrids and will add a 3 W, which I currently do not have in my bag. All other things stay the same. I am very happy with my clubs.

I love wings and I like them hot. Unfortunately most of the so called super hot wings I get like from Hooters, Winghouse or Buffalo Wild Wings (to name a few big ones)are simply not hot . Maybe spicy but not hot. Also the quality of those wings is not as it was before. So about 2.years ago we visited Fort Myers Beach and while looking for a parking spot to actually check out the beach we found a small little place named Wicked Wings.
It was an evening to remember. It was so good that I never stopped thinking about coming back which became reality yesterday. We did not make it in time for happy hour. Happy hour runs until 5 pm.There is some beer and food specials you can get. There were about 6 people on the top level. It was pretty windy and fresh.

But take a look at the view we had for our beer and the food which would come with it?

 

 

This was at about 5 35 pm on November 24th 2013 at the Wicked Wings.

 

The server took only a minute to get to us. Ordered a couple beers which came promptly. I ordered 10 wings with the third hottest sauce on the side and large fries as well as fried pickles. Pickles only took a few minutes. They were the best we had in ages. Large and with a good light breading. Ordered another beer while waiting for the wings and fries. They came and the girl apologized for it taking so long.
I told her it is not a problem and she explained that the cook simply left her alone. So she was serving and in between cooking.
I must say she did a great job. The wings were perfect and the fries right as they should be. Especially the seasoning was great. The sauce was what I ordered but not hot enough. Death might be too much but killer would have been it.
Nevertheless the food was great, the beer was very and cold and the young lady did a great job handling the situation.
The bill was 26$.For the great food and the even better view that was a great deal. I am not sure if this is still the same owner, but I sure liked it again and no doubt I will be back as soon as possible. The location is wonderful and I like the size of the place. Makes it kind of cozy. They have around 25 spots up on the deck and at least 50 down in the sand, which is really nice as well.

If you ever get to Fort Myers Beach, you need to stop by there and sit for a while. Have a cold beer and try some food. We will be back soon.

After more than a year of waiting to upgrade my phone I finally decided it is time. But this time I wanted to do a better job protecting my new device. First on the agenda: a good screen protector. Easy to install,good price and with good ratings.
I had no idea how many brands there actually are. So I started reading reviews on Amazon and all over the Internet. After about an hour of research I found that the Tech Armor screen protector was one of the better ones, if not the best one.

 

 Looking for a great deal, I found
what I was looking for on Amazon and ordered a 3 pack for a very good price.
Got the package in reasonable time. Nicely packed I found the 3 protector foils, cleaning towel and bubble remover as well as easy to understand instructions. All was in excellent condition. It said that I could find a video on their website to learn how to install the protector. It was not only easy to find but showed in a simple way how to do it fast and right.
I followed those instructions and it was a breeze to put it on. There is absolutely no bubble, it looks great, fits perfect and the screen functions without a problem or loss of speed. As a matter of fact, I think it is easier to operate now.
I had many others before but the Tech Armor is by far the best one I used so far. There is all kinds of prices out there for this product so I would suggest to look for sales online. Tech Armor screen protectors are excellent. A great product.

China Buffet - 4329 Cleveland Aveneu, Suite 501, Fort Myers, FL 33901 - short review November 17th 2013

In Fort Myers you will find endless options to go eat. But sometimes when you are in a hurry, you got to take what is coming along.

That is what we did November 17th 2013. After arriving at a closed Greek place we said we will try for Chinese Buffet if we find one. This time we did the GPS get lucky thing and found a few. While driving we saw a Hooters restaurant and right next to it we saw a sign : China Buffet.

Pulled right into the parking lot. When coming to the door we saw it will be open until 9 30 pm and it was 8 50 pm. The hostess who greeted us was friendly and when I asked her if we can still get in to eat, she said yes with a smile. A man sitting at a table next to us was not so excited about us being there.

I looked over to the Buffet and saw that there was still plenty of food in the trays. So I was OK with it. We did not even ask for the price. Our server was friendly and asked us what we want to drink.
Got the cokes pretty fast. Then off to the Buffet.

There was a selection of items, but you could see that they did not put any fresh items out for a while.
Of all items I had the soup was the hottest and pretty much the best. Most of the fried stuff like egg rolls and dumplings were dried out and had no taste to it.

The Sushi was good, but there was only 2 items out and when I came for seconds at 9 05 pm, all of the Sushi was put away. The only reason I got some muscles in the cold bar was that I stopped the guy taking them away while I was getting good.

The salad bar I did not try. Was not much there but that looked fresh. Then I went on to the main dishes. The Peking Duck looked good and the taste was good, but it was absolutely cold. The sauce was very good though. All the chicken dishes were OK and almost hot. But nothing special. The orange chicken and the general Tsao chicken tasted the same. The beef dish was not worth the while. Noodles were OK, fried rice tasted good but also was cold.

I tried pretty much all thing but the fish and the crab. I figured that they must have been out too long and I did not want to take a chance. Christiane tried the pudding and liked that the best.

Our server was great. She came 2 times and asked if things are OK and if we needed more coke. That was very nice. We ordered the check pretty fast. The atmosphere and the way it all looked. it was not a place to sit and chat. Also the people where starting vacuuming, cleaning and the guy who was putting away stuff was jumping up in joy when we ordered the check.

The check. Yeah. The entire experience cost us 28 $. If the food would have been any good or the atmosphere cozy and nice I would understand to pay that price. However, the Buffet was not worth more then 6.95 $ each and until today I do not understand the bill LOL. However, we gave the server a very good tip because she was nice , friendly and had a smile all the way and actually thanked us for being there, which nobody else in this place did.

If you want Chinese Buffet in Fort Myers, The China Buffet on Cleveland Avenue is not the place to go. There is a chance that because they closed within 40 minutes of our arrival some things might have happened. But friendly, if you can not keep up your service and standard all the way to the end of your posted hours, don't open a restaurant.

We are back on the road for now , but will be back next week and see where we are going to eat then. Gladly will we share our experiences so you can save yourself some time and money :). We are Germans and travelled all over the World and have tons of experience in terms of food. So we know what to expect when we go eat somewhere. So I think our point of view is pretty simple and not over picky. Comments and communications are always welcome and I will keep writing as we go , try, test and buy.

La Quinta Inns and Suites South on Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers, Florida

Business trip to Ft. Myers. We stayed in all kinds of hotels and we never had a very bad one. This trip is about making money and so the least expensive option was what we were looking for. Surprisingly La Quinta Inn South came in as the second lowest. On top of that we are rewards members and love to use this option. So we booked it for 50$ including tax,which that is a great deal.
Check in was starting T 3 pm, which worked great for us. Found it easily as Cleveland Avenue is a large main road in this town. Christiane checked in and was very happy when she came back to the car.
The young man checking her in was very friendly. We requested a room with very good WiFi.

Not only did we get that, but we got a room right by the pool and it was an upgrade to a king size bed. I liked right away. Parking was close.

The room was very clean and clearly a non smoking room. Everything was in order and all items like soap and so on where stocked.

Room has a fridge, microwave, alarm clock and TV. Everything in working order and clean. Nice table with two chairs. A great room for that price I must say.

Only 20 minutes into me being on there the

front desk called to find out if WiFi is working good enough and if all is OK, which I told him it is.

My next step was to go swimming on the pool and to work with my laptop. Pool area was clean . Pool was clean as well. They have chairs,tables and some sun chairs. They were also clean.

Umbrellas looked good and they even had a lift for handicapped guests. WiFi worked great here as well.

 

I spent about 45 minutes out there and it was nice. Water was perfect and it was quiet. The pool is set back on this property and there is a nice fence separating it from the parking lot.

 

Had some snacks from the vending machines after that. Good price and all functional as well.

Slept really well on the mattress. A/C worked good and it was quiet. The breakfast they served the next morning was simple but good.

Bagels, bread, waffles, oranges and bananas, different cereals, hard boiled eggs. Orange and apple juice was there. The coffee was actually not bad at all. Different kinds of jelly, cream cheese and some spread. So it was all good. I liked the milk. 2 % and pretty good. What was different was that the bread was packaged one at a time. Never saw that before. But once in the toaster it does not matter.

Considering that years ago there was no breakfast in most of those places, this was pretty good.

Check out is at noon. That is great because we could go swimming one more time and get things ready without any stress.

Overall this is a nice place for a stop on the way. Remember, that these hotels are very old places which were renovated by this company. Do not expect that the building is brand new. You can see that this place is older. But the way they did it, it is clean and comfortable. That is what counts and for the price of app. 50 $ you can not complaint.

Make sure you bring all your discount options like AAA, ARRP or whatever you got. Also if you have a rewards card make sure you mention it.

I am satisfied with this hotel. Not a place where I would spend a 3 week vacation, but while on the road or for a couple or 3 days, this is totally sufficient and affordable. When we are back working in this area, we for sure will consider the La Quinta Inns & Suites South in Fort Myers. The location is good. A good place to stay when you travel through.
